BEREAVED relatives are being pressured into signing probate contracts with companies that charge more than quadruple the going rate, it has been claimed.
Peter Gibson, managing director of Coles Solicitors, warned people left vulnerable by the recent loss of a loved one to be wary about using financial institutions, rather than solicitors, to deal with probate -which is the administration of a person's financial and property affairs after their death.

Coles Solicitors, the personal injury and accident specialist law firm based in Northallerton has welcomed the recommendation by Lord Justice Jackson to ban Solicitors from paying referral fees for personal injury work. Over the past ten years, Solicitors have increasingly paid higher and higher sums of money to have injured clients brought to them, through TV advertising, campaigns in hospitals and doorstep canvassers, which have tarnished the Solicitors profession immensely.
A TRAILBLAZING firm of solicitors has hailed the arrival of the virtual lawyer with a new service that allows clients to draft key legal documents from their computers whenever they choose - and at a significant saving.
Beginning on the 1st December, Coles Solicitors - which serves a client base across North Yorkshire, Teesside and South Durham from offices in Northallerton, North Yorkshire - is the first law firm in the UK to offer a live, on-line system operated through virtual law specialist Direct Law.
The service offers a wide range of documents for both personal and business clients via www.coles-law.co.uk, from wills and business start-up documentation to powers of attorney and debt recovery.
Coles Solicitors is to waive its usual fees for preparing wills in November.
Instead, Coles Solicitors is requesting that clients donate the money to charity in return for setting out the all important details of their bequests.
The firm, which serves clients across North Yorkshire, South Durham and Teesside from its offices in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, is participating in the hugely successful national Will Aid scheme, in which solicitors give their services to raise as much money as possible for nine charities, which include ActionAid, British Red Cross, NSPCC and Help the Aged.
Coles Solicitors, one of Yorkshires leading law firms, are celebrating this week after achieving substantial sums for two of their personal injury clients.

Coles Solicitors is expanding with a new office in Thirsk. The move, by Coles Solicitors, comes just weeks after it relocated its Northallerton headquarters to purpose-built offices in the town. Peter Gibson, managing director and principal solicitor, said the decision to open a new office had been prompted by increasing volumes of work from the Thirsk area.

THREE businesses have brought their clients the benefits of legal, financial and accountancy services in close proximity with their move to purpose-built premises.
The Rt Hon William Hague, Richmond MP and Shadow Foreign Minister, was on hand today to cut a ribbon and formally open the new home of Coles Solicitors, financial advisers Easby Gale and Phillipson and Kenneth Easby Chartered Accountants, at Trinity House on Northallerton's Thurston Road business park. After touring the bright, spacious offices -which have full disabled access and facilities - Mr Hague said: "I wish everyone who will be working here well. These are three well-known and reputable local firms and having three professional services together fits well."
Coles Solicitors announced today that they have just successfully recovered a sum of £50,000 for a client who was involved in a road traffic accident when his vehicle was hit in the rear.
Peter Gibson, the firm's Principal Solicitor, and a Senior Litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers said "This client chose to use us when his own insurers tried to push him into using their Solicitors at the other end of the country. He wanted to keep his claim local and put the matter in the hands of experts".

Speaking some two weeks after the move the firms Managing Director and Principal Solicitor, Peter Gibson said “ The move has gone amazingly well, with very few difficulties, and after two weeks we have now settled in.
