Our story

Coles Solicitors are a friendly expert law team with ten locations throughout Yorkshire and Cleveland. We specialise in a wide range of professional services which include Family Law, Wills & Probate, Conveyancing, Medical Negligence, Dispute Resolution and Litigation.

The sensitive nature of some of our business services means that we do have a responsibility of care to our clients and we naturally treat each case with respect and empathy. Our caring nature extends into our local community where we participate in many charitable activities, donations and sponsorships.

Every year we select a ‘charity of the year’ and this year it has been Yorkshire Cancer Research where we have successfully raised over £4500. Yorkshire Cancer Research helps people in and around Yorkshire to avoid, survive and cope with cancer. Our main fundraising event for the year was a Ball which was hosted at Solberge Hall, Newby Wiske, Northallerton. Our guests enjoyed live music, delicious food and drink, raffles and a high quality prize auction.

Throughout the year, we have Yorkshire Cancer Research donation tubs stationed at each of our ten offices and all of our unclaimed cheques are donated to the charity.

Yorkshire Cancer Research said “We’re extremely grateful to Coles Solicitors for choosing us as their Charity of the Year. Yorkshire Cancer Research is aiming to double its annual income from £5m to £10m in order to significantly increase the number of people who survive cancer in Yorkshire so having the support of local businesses like Coles is incredibly important to us. We have been extremely impressed with the dedication the team at Coles has shown in raising money, including organising a very successful ball.

The money raised will help us invest in our four main focuses for 2016. It will help us fund research projects to tackle lung cancer, the most common cancer in Yorkshire and the biggest cause of cancer-related death, and improve early diagnosis, which is key to improving survival rates. It will also go towards bringing more clinical trials to the region so that people living in Yorkshire have better access to pioneering treatments and medical advances, and introduce a new community health project that will raise awareness, increase participation in national screening programmes for bowel, breast and cervical cancer and sign-post people to the best services and support. “

We also contribute to restoring the Yorkshire Dales and we work closely with the Yorkshire Dales Memorial Trust (YDMT) to plant a tree for every new estate administration work carried out. To date, we have planted over 90 trees to aid the creation of beautiful new native broadleaf woodland throughout the Yorkshire Dales.

Leah Cardus, Fundraising Officer at YDMT, said: “It is great to work with individuals and organisations like Coles Solicitors who share our passion for trees, nature and the environment. Thanks to their generous support we are playing a crucial role in creating new broadleaf woodlands, to enrich the landscape and support a range of wildlife, and that can be enjoyed by future generations.”

We are constantly looking at new ways into how we can help and support our community. We make regular donations to many different charities and sponsor events, community venues and even people!

We are main supporters of Beverley Community Lift who are a voluntary service for people who cannot easily use other forms of transport. Our donation helps the service transport the elderly, disabled and isolated people in rural villages to attend medical appointments, go shopping and have day trips. Each year, every office at Coles Solicitors hosts a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The yearly event is supported by a raffle draw and this year we raised over £751 for the worthy cause.

We are also sponsoring a local young lady from Beverley called Holly Bentham who is a 2016 British Judo champion. Alongside this, we also sponsor many community sporting teams which include the rapidly expanding Allerton Junior Athletics Club, Yarm cricket club, Ribblesdale RUFC, Thirsk Cricket Club, Norhallerton Cricket Club and Settle swimming pool.

As well as his duties of being Managing Director and Solicitor at our company Coles Solicitors, Peter Gibson has been on the board of trustees at Herriot Hospice Homecare for over five years supporting taking the charity forward. Herriot Hospice Homecare is a "hospice without walls" providing care to patients in their own homes across Hambleton and Richmondshire, North Yorkshire. In addition, Peter also serves as a trustee of Newcastle University Students Union.
Alongside our expert legal services, we are always proud of our hard work and dedication in helping our local communities and we are constantly look for new and better ways of how we can help our local communities in the years to come.
